The very first signs of interest given by the young Durkheim for a scientific approach to the religious phenomena were addressed to the History of Religion. But the study of the relationship between Durkheim and the history of religion is still to be written. Therefore, I’m going to concentrate here on a single case study: the ancient ritual of the camel’s sacrifice, studied by Willam Robertson Smith and extensively debated among anthropologist and historians of religion between the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century.

Abstract
The very first signs of interest given by the young Durkheim for a scientific approach to the religious phenomena were addressed to the History of Religion. But the study of the relationship between Durkheim and the history of religion is still to be written. Therefore, I’m going to concentrate here on a single case study: the ancient ritual of the camel’s sacrifice, studied by Willam Robertson Smith and extensively debated among anthropologist and historians of religion between the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century.File in questo prodotto:
