Abstract
The texts that are poorly scratched upon the urns from the collective tomb of San Cesareo (Rome, II-I c. BC) provide a specimen of the writing repertoire of the urban plebs in the Late Republic. Framed against the Latin writing diasystem, these writings are analysed as the result of the dialectics between calligraphic and cursive tendencies, whose balance is determined by the skill of the writers, the occasion of writing, the textual typology, and the writing techniques.File in questo prodotto:
