This chapter examines the Italian experience of the Prison University Campuses, using quantitative and qualitative methods. Focusing attention on higher education in prison takes the form of an analytical and critical exercise that is particularly useful, as it allows the distance between prison and society, prison and prisoner stereotypes, and the institu-tional will to guarantee the right to education at all levels, to be questioned. Moreover, it allows us to grasp the transformative effects of the knowledge, on the subject and the system, beyond any rhetoric of prison reformatory treatment.
