The essay analyzes the evolution and the transformations of Iconologia through the analysis of the frontispieces, which contain important messages, and show innovative iconographic. The frontispieces of European editions have in common the fact that they reveal multiple "betrayals" of the original text: in some the function of Iconologia as a manual for artists and the importance of its role within academies is highlighted, in others it is insisted on the relationship with the esoteric and sapiential world of hieroglyphics, in others, finally, we reflect on the nature of symbolic language, underlining the importance of the intimate relationship between poetry and painting, and we come to create a personification of the same iconology, as the art of images.
