The constructive system that was proposed after the seismic events of the 19th century in the island of Ischia was characterized by the "casa baraccata”. In Casamicciola the church of Santa Maria Maddalena Penitente – still today existing – was built as a “house” completely made of iron. This building is one of the most representative examples of mixed structure in which the iron elements are protected and masked by the wall structures, with which they collaborate. Another important building located in the municipality of Forio is the basilica of Santa Maria di Loreto. At the beginning of the 18th century the building was lengthened, and a second quadrangular dome and a choir were added. After the earthquake of 1883, the dome was replaced by a coffered ceiling. The circular dome on the primitive transept was "redone" in 1779 and still today exists.

Abstract
The circular dome on the primitive transept was "redone" in 1779 and still today exists.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
