This paper deals with the distribution of African Cooking Wares (ACW) in the North Tyrrhenian district. The study of both shipwrecks and coastal and inland contexts providessignificant data to reconstruct reliable commercial trends for this ceramic type betweenthe 1st and 5th centuries A.D. These vessels had remarkable commercial success in thedistrict because they were shipped together with economically more important goods (grain, amphorae, ARSW). While in coastal areas, the circulation of ACW extended intothe 5th century A.D., in inland areas, the demand for these vessels collapsed in the 4th century A.D. These differences in the regional distribution contexts of ACW provide a significant case study for comparative analyses of the complex network ofMediterranean routes and trade systems.
