Although its positive results, microirrigation diffusion over the years has been frequently slowed down by shortage of affordable plant design and operation. To overcome these problems and aim at maximum water and energy savings, a SW, named Ve.Pro.L.G./s, was released by LNI (Natl. Lab for Irrigation)-DAGA and ARSIA (Tuscany's Agency for Agriculture). This SW helps project dripping tapes, irrigation sectors, and microirrigation plant parts, to cope with actual field conditions and crop requirements. At the operating stage, it verifies the operation of the dripping tapes, and suggests possible plant modifications to improve its efficiency. It calculates also: soil washed out and crop used water volumes, irrigation energy consumption, annual cost of dripping tapes on a field or a broader area basis, and plans water resource use on a given territory
