Digitalization Processes and Emerging Values of Service Design

The first two decades of the 21st century presented many achievements in innovation through digital technologies. In fact, today digital devices stand as a pervasive phenomenon characterizing many aspects of everyday life. Accordingly, we are living in an historical time that presents the highest number of innovations within all of human history, as a technology-driven revolution offers brand new experiences to users. On the one hand, we can now easily orient ourselves in a city we have never visited, we can drive a car we don’t own, we can communicate in a language we don’t understand, and we can access information and knowledge centers through personal devices. Importantly, we can do and share all these activities in real time through interconnected social networks. On the other hand, we are living in an extremely complex situation, where new technologies and trends are continuously upgrading. We are all challenged to adapt to new devices and software that potentially intrude on our lives at every level and in every sector, including education, politics, production, health care, and domestic life.
