Abstract
This article aims to propose an analysis of the film Dante (2022), written and directed by Pupi Avati. Firstly, the author discusses the quantity and the variety of films set in the Middle Ages and the practice usually adopted in this genre. Then, the main themes recurring in Avati’s filmography are identified in Dante: friendship, betrayal, passion for adventure, fascination for magic and death, etc. Afterwards, she examines the structure of the movie and the significance of Boccaccio’s travel, both real and metaphorical, to Ravenna in search of Dante’s daughter. Avati tries to recapture the real Dante and in order to achieve this, he stages the poet’s youth and his love for Beatrice, because Dante is conceivable exclusively as a eternal boy, young and in love.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
