This chapter reviews the main aspects regarding miniaturized electrochemical instrumentation by discussing the following topics: devices' possible form factors, especially when the instrumentation is embedded in a wearable; elements of biochemical sensing; state-of-the-art devices commercially available and their characteristics; advanced devices that are likely to be soon commercially available; common electrochemical techniques that are candidate to be embedded in miniaturized systems; analytes of interest in biological fluids and their meaningful range; sensor fabrication technologies; system integration technologies; a showcase of high performance custom integrated circuits (ICs); and last, advances in flexible electronics for both sensing and signal processing.
