Abstract

This article considers that the war between Russia and Ukraine could be explained as a consequence of national feelings since Russia inherited an unlimited conception of power and the idea that the “sacred” Russian territories must be united. The increasingly authoritarian trend experienced by Russian politics is consistent with an aggressive foreign policy strategy, which has recently resulted in the invasion of Ukraine. This paper considers the Russian national identity to be pivotal in understanding the current war, also considering the constitutional evolution that led to the 2020 Reform.
