In this article, I critically analyze Adriano Pessina’s L’essere altrove using a hermeneutical approach that goes beyond just reflecting the author’s intentions. Structured in seven parts, the discussion begins by exploring the idea of «elsewhere» as a ubiquitous aspect in modern culture, blending real and virtual realms. It then examines Pessina’s concept of a «digital epoché» – a contemplative break to consider our lived experiences and the human condition in the digital era. I introduce «epistemic resistance» as an alternative to traditional ethical norms and the «can- on of pure formalization», which Pessina argues are inadequate for addressing the complexities of technological and AI advancements. The concept of «being elsewhere» is further explored in the contexts of digitalization and globalization, highlighting the tension between presence and absence. The article concludes by reflecting on Pessina’s call for a digital humanism that acknowledges the embodied and diverse nature of human experience.

Abstract
The article concludes by reflecting on Pessina’s call for a digital humanism that acknowledges the embodied and diverse nature of human experience.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
