The article deals with Wilhelm Küchelbecker’s works composed during his Baltic and Siberian exile (1826-1846). A full account of the most important formative influence on Küchelbecker requires a closer examination of his ideological and political convictions, his attitude to religion, and his relation- ship with the literary Decembrist background. The reforms proposed by the Decembrists were political, linguistic, and cultural in the broadest sense of the term. This context of reforms also includes the Russian translation of the Bible by The Bible Society in Russia. As is well known, the failure of the re- forms turned the Decembrists into rioters. After the arrest following the De- cembrist Revolt (occurred on 14 December 1825), Küchelbecker’s perception of his existential condition became clearer; his opinion of the negative situa- tion in Russia resulted from a complex of circumstances including his Luthe- ran background. Küchelbecker’s work of 1820-1840-ies is imbued with religious experience to some extent; this inclination is evident from his poetry and diary (1831-1845), where biblical motives and traces of Luther’s cultural inheritance are highlighted.

Abstract
Küchelbecker’s work of 1820-1840-ies is imbued with religious experience to some extent; this inclination is evident from his poetry and diary (1831-1845), where biblical motives and traces of Luther’s cultural inheritance are highlighted.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
