The work, developed as a graduation thesis, tries to solve the theme of the dialogue between different cultures through the architectural project. The dissertation proposes the inclusion of the mosque in an occidental urban context, especially as part of the Recovery Plan for the Ex Hospital named Santa Chiara, a wide neighborhood close to the “Piazza del Duomo” of Pisa. The choice of this scenario, full of religious and cultural integration, deeply historicized, finds its sense in the social, historical, and urban aspects that the mosque assumes in the city of Pisa. “Piazza dei Miracoli” is an example of urban composition and became the central reference for the project. The design proposes as the main topics the construction of continuity elements to recompose part of the fragmentary tissue of the area and the presence of a public space. The archetypical elements of the portico and the wall enable the positioning of the mosque, open to people but at the same time private. Its integration in the network of urban, social, and historical relations is possible through the interpretation of the Islamic sacred architecture shapes. The encounter of spaces, architecture, and community, different for the history but with elements of continuity, can make possible the dialogue between the mosque, the “Piazza dei Miracoli” and the city of Pisa.

Abstract
The encounter of spaces, architecture, and community, different for the history but with elements of continuity, can make possible the dialogue between the mosque, the “Piazza dei Miracoli” and the city of Pisa.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
