Della Cappella nostra di Santa Croce: pratiche devozionali e appartenenza civica della nazione lucchese in Bruges nel tardo Medioevo

The theme of this contribution, dedicated to the devotion of the Holy Cross of the merchants of Lucca in Bruges, is addressed mainly through the study of the two official sources of the community, their Statute of 1478 and the Book or Journal of their lodge relating to the years 1377 -1404. The documents show us in the cult of the Holy Cross not only a religious and devotional practice, but also a moment perceived by the community of Bruges as strongly identifying and which strengthened its civic unity: that is, with exactly the same character it had in the motherland.

Il tema oggetto di questo contributo, dedicato alla devozione della Santa Croce dei mercanti di Lucca a Bruges, è affrontato prevalentemente attraverso lo studio delle due fonti ufficiali della comunità, il loro Statuto del 1478 e il Libro o Giornale della loro loggia relativo agli anni 1377-1404. I documenti ci mostrano nel culto della Santa Croce non solo una pratica religiosa e devozionale, ma anche un momento avvertito dalla comunità di Bruges come fortemente identitario e che ne rafforzava l’unità civica: cioè esattamente con lo stesso carattere che aveva nella madrepatria.
