We present results, in terms of the Fano factor and of the total transmission, of numerical simulations of transport in an electron waveguide with cascaded barriers that are not perpendicular to the direction of current propagation. The oblique position of the barriers introduces interaction between the propagating modes and, for a large enough departure from the perpendicular position and a few choices of the parameters, a Fano factor of 1/3 is approached. The simulation turns out to be particularly challenging, because of the very large number of evanescent modes that need to be considered to achieve a valid solution.

Abstract

We present results, in terms of the Fano factor and of the total transmission, of numerical simulations of transport in an electron waveguide with cascaded barriers that are not perpendicular to the direction of current propagation. The oblique position of the barriers introduces interaction between the propagating modes and, for a large enough departure from the perpendicular position and a few choices of the parameters, a Fano factor of 1/3 is approached. The simulation turns out to be particularly challenging, because of the very large number of evanescent modes that need to be considered to achieve a valid solution.
