Starting from the recent volume by G. Kazantzidis, Lucretius on Disease (2021), the article discusses the presence of medical themes in Lucretius’ De rerum natura, analyzing both passages that show a metaphorical use of images and medical language, and passages which concretely deal with diseases and pathological aspects of the human body. The influence of medical texts on Lucretius must be framed in the broader context of an interest that the Epicurean school as a whole had in medicine.

Abstract
Starting from the recent volume by G. Kazantzidis, Lucretius on Disease (2021), the article discusses the presence of medical themes in Lucretius’ De rerum natura, analyzing both passages that show a metaphorical use of images and medical language, and passages which concretely deal with diseases and pathological aspects of the human body. The influence of medical texts on Lucretius must be framed in the broader context of an interest that the Epicurean school as a whole had in medicine.File in questo prodotto:
