Ancora sui canti fiorentini dell’“Inferno” (e ancora sul Veltro)

More on the Florentine Songs of the Inferno (and More on the Veltro) · This article proposes new considerations on various problematic passages of the first cantos of the Inferno, noting that they are often explained in the comments with ad hoc solutions. What Boccaccio reports in his Expositions is also re-examined: the reliability of the story is confirmed, but not for the number of cantos written in Florence (four and not seven). Finally, a detailed historical picture of the period between the end of 1299 and the beginning of 1300 is proposed, in which the enigmatic figure of Veltro could also find a new explanation.

Quest’articolo propone nuove considerazioni su vari passi problematici dei primi canti dell’Inferno, facendo notare che spesso vengono spiegati nei commenti con soluzioni ad hoc. Viene anche riesaminato quanto riferisce Boccaccio nelle sue Esposizioni: si conferma l’attendibilità del racconto, ma non per il numero dei canti scritti a Firenze (quattro e non sette). Viene infine proposto un dettagliato quadro storico del periodo tra la fine del 1299 e l’inizio del 1300, nel quale potrebbe trovare una nuova spiegazione anche l’enigmatica figura del Veltro.
