In recent years, the metaphorical term passoire thermique – with its variants – has been increasingly used to designate energy-inefficient homes. This term is even contained in official texts of European institutions. In this article, we aim to trace the genesis of this term and to follow its evolution and its discursive circulation in different French monolingual corpora on the one hand and to analyse its translations into English, Spanish and Italian in parallel corpora composed of plurilingual texts of European institutions on the other.
