This paper focuses on the position of Roman law in the University of Pisa during the first two decades of the 21st century in terms of both teaching and research. In my personal experience I was confronted with many challenges, the first of which was to find a content for the new course of Foundations of European Law, introduced in Italian legal education in 2000. Thereafter, I had to make significant changes in the teaching of Roman private law and Roman public law, depending on the targets of the involved students. Consequently, I developed different methodologies that have also determined my research activities. Finally, my own experience leads me to draw some more general conclusions on the prospects for Roman law in the coming years of this century.

Abstract
This paper focuses on the position of Roman law in the University of Pisa during the first two decades of the 21st century in terms of both teaching and research. In my personal experience I was confronted with many challenges, the first of which was to find a content for the new course of Foundations of European Law, introduced in Italian legal education in 2000. Thereafter, I had to make significant changes in the teaching of Roman private law and Roman public law, depending on the targets of the involved students. Consequently, I developed different methodologies that have also determined my research activities. Finally, my own experience leads me to draw some more general conclusions on the prospects for Roman law in the coming years of this century.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
