The research emphasizes how the enhancement of 11 protected areas, sustainable agricultural practices, and the potential for renewable energy can con-12 tribute to improving the region's resilience. While the South faces significant environmental and 13 economic issues, solutions can be identified that may contribute to greater territorial cohesion. The 14 analysis is based on various socio-economic and environmental indicators, utilizing assessment 15 tools to outline a comprehensive picture of the existing challenges and opportunities. The evidence 16 suggests that adaptation and mitigation policies, already implemented in some areas of the South, 17 require further support to reduce inequalities and transform vulnerabilities into opportunities for 18 sustainable development. Investing in the adaptive capacity of Southern Italy could not only help 19 reduce climate inequalities but also prevent potential crises related to climate change, promoting a 20 more balanced territorial cohesion throughout the country.
