Abstract

The multidisciplinary nature, more stressed in recent times, that characterizes the architectural design processes emerges in each project due to the knowledge distributed among the various specialized actors. The profound differences in the cultural and technical background of each actor are reflected in the widely varying modes in which they understand and consider the entities involved in the building process. Putting together actors' intelligence by means of a real collaboration can improve the artefacts in the world. Collaboration to be effective needs an innovative representational approach aims at a new comprehensive conception of architectural design process/product together with the knowledge melting pot in which a project is developed. The representation is marked by four 'poles' of a Knowledge symbolic Tetrahedron that represent the different kinds of knowledge defining a project: 'product', context, actors and procedures. Each knowledge pole is represented by knowledge structures and other significant semantic tools, so information exchanged between actors can be understood at a high semantic level. This conceptually new kind of design representation takes care of complexity of architecture project as a system of comprehensive knowledge realms.
