The concept of "shared built heritage" is quite intricate and challenging to define precisely such a complex heritage. Recently, the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for Shared Built Heritage defined it after a long journey of discussions, meetings, and thoughtful evaluations. The Committee's definition was initially focused on colonial heritage, but it has now broadened its scope to encompass a wider heritage. The paper offers a detailed overview of the complex debate by recounting these events and reading the charters and conventions. The newly formed Sci-entific Committee for the Shared Heritage of ICOMOS Italia provides an opportunity to present the theme on a na-tional level.

Abstract
The concept of "shared built heritage" is quite intricate and challenging to define precisely such a complex heritage. Recently, the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for Shared Built Heritage defined it after a long journey of discussions, meetings, and thoughtful evaluations. The Committee's definition was initially focused on colonial heritage, but it has now broadened its scope to encompass a wider heritage. The paper offers a detailed overview of the complex debate by recounting these events and reading the charters and conventions. The newly formed Sci-entific Committee for the Shared Heritage of ICOMOS Italia provides an opportunity to present the theme on a na-tional level.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
