The present chapter deals with the thermal hydraulic design features of Reactor Coolant Systems (RCS) for selected categories of Water-Cooled Nuclear Reactors (WCNR). Example of questions in relation to which an answer is provided are: (a) Why water is adopted as working fluid? (b) What is the reason for high pressure? (c) Why thermal efficiency is about 0.33 in current WCNR? (d) What are the criteria for selecting the number of loops? (e) What are the basis for the design of Emergency Core Cooling (ECC) systems? (f) What are the key differences between Boiling and Pressurized Water Reactors (BWR and PWR)? (g) What are the key features of WCNR which are not PWR nor BWR? (h) What are the key features of thermal hydraulic passive systems? Specific sub-chapters are devoted to containment and Balance of Plant (BoP) for those WCNR. In the last section of the chapter, questions and answers are provided touching relevant parameters of WCNR design.

Abstract
In the last section of the chapter, questions and answers are provided touching relevant parameters of WCNR design.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
