This essay explores the impact of the digital revolution on our lives, beginning with the influence of the Internet and new media on our cognitive sphere. It examines the communicative, social, and political consequences of this phenomenon, revealing how our behaviors can sometimes appear irrational to the extent of endangering democratic institutions. The essay then emphasizes that irrationality is a persistent feature of human behavior, drawing on classical authors such as Le Bon and Ortega y Gasset, as well as recent studies in cognitive psychology. By broadening the critical horizon in this manner, the authors aim to determine whether we are truly experiencing an anthropological transformation or if technological changes have merely amplified certain traits already inherent in human beings, traits that are inevitably destined to surface within the mechanisms of democracy itself.

Abstract
This essay explores the impact of the digital revolution on our lives, beginning with the influence of the Internet and new media on our cognitive sphere. It examines the communicative, social, and political consequences of this phenomenon, revealing how our behaviors can sometimes appear irrational to the extent of endangering democratic institutions. The essay then emphasizes that irrationality is a persistent feature of human behavior, drawing on classical authors such as Le Bon and Ortega y Gasset, as well as recent studies in cognitive psychology. By broadening the critical horizon in this manner, the authors aim to determine whether we are truly experiencing an anthropological transformation or if technological changes have merely amplified certain traits already inherent in human beings, traits that are inevitably destined to surface within the mechanisms of democracy itself.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
