The article analyses the semantics and functioning of the Russian spatial deictic tut and identifies its Italian equivalents. The contrastive study is based on the data of the parallel corpus of the Russian National Corpus. The deictic tut is polyfunctional, its peculiarities are clearly manifested against the background of Italian translations. The research revealed a rich list of translated equivalents of tut in different meanings and functions. The study made it possible to confirm the meanings traditionally attributed to tut by means of comparative analysis, and to identify new meanings, typical contexts and functions from a pragmatic-textual perspective.
