The Italian reception of Mann ohne Eigenschaften (MoE) traditionally follows two paths: editorial work and the critique of society and contemporaneity carried out by Musil through his novel. Interest in style is generally less prominent, despite the rightful emphasis on elements such as the use of metaphors, irony, and the correlation between narrative and essayistic style. The issue of MoE’s style has not yet been thoroughly examined from a text linguistic perspective. The aim of this work is to demonstrate how, in Musil, linguistic choices are never random or purely aesthetically motivated but substantially contribute to the literary consistency of the novel. If the narrative material consists of attempts to shape a state, the stylistic choices progress coherently, in alignment with the ongoing search for a “style without qualities”.

Abstract
If the narrative material consists of attempts to shape a state, the stylistic choices progress coherently, in alignment with the ongoing search for a “style without qualities”.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
