Grammatica generata

The diffusion of generative artificial intelligence systems has been accompanied by an examination of the characterising traits of their linguistic production. This examination, although still far from being considered definitive and agreed upon by all, shows that these systems, despite having a remarkable ability to imitate human writing, sometimes deviate from it in ways that seem to be due to structural differences in the management of linguistic information. In particular, the differences between human behaviour and that of generative artificial intelligence are paramount in cases where syntax and semantics are more closely intertwined. In line with this approach, this contribution examines some examples relating to Italian. In particular, this examination deals with the case of correlative links and coordinate structures, in which divergences from the standard are relatively frequent. In these areas, the behaviour of generative artificial intelligences and that of human learners show both differences and points of contact.

La diffusione delle intelligenze artificiali generative si è rapidamente accompagnata a un esame dei tratti caratterizzanti delle loro produzioni linguistiche. Questo esame, per quanto ancora ben lontano dall’essere considerabile definitivo e condiviso, mostra che tali sistemi, nonostante possiedano una notevolissima capacità di imitare la scrittura umana, a volte se ne allontanano in tratti che sembrano riconducibili a differenze strutturali nella gestione delle informazioni linguistiche. In particolare, le divergenze tra il comportamento umano e quello delle intelligenze artificiali generative risultano evidenti nei casi in cui sintassi e semantica sono intrecciate in modo più stretto. In continuità con questa impostazione, il contributo prende in esame alcuni esempi relativi all’italiano. In particolare, viene approfondito il caso dei nessi correlativi delle strutture coordinate, in cui le divergenze rispetto allo standard sono piuttosto frequenti. In questi ambiti, il comportamento delle intelligenze artificiali generative e quello degli apprendenti umani mostrano sia differenze sia punti di contatto.
