1977 was a watershed year in Bologna’s history, marked by the emergence of a move- ment bearing the same name. The events of that year deeply divided the community and continue to echo to this day in collective memory. This essay moves along two main lines of inquiry: first, it examines how the movement and the political groups continuing its legacy have constructed and preserved their memory of these events; second, it investigates how Bologna’s communists experienced and recalled these occurrences.
