This study focuses on the adaptation into Spanish and on the validation of the short form of the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26; Gardner, Olmsted, Bohr & Garfinkel, 1982). A total of 77 clinical cases and 79 controls females aged 12 - 35 participated in the study. Results from Principal Component Analyses showed a unidimensional structure of item scores. Internal consistency of the scale was excellent (Cronbach alpha = 0.938). Using the Questionnaire for Eating Disorder Diagnoses (Q-EDD; Mintz, O'Halloran, Mulholland, & Schneider, 1997) as criterion, ROC analyses yielded a cut-off score of 23 for differentiating between cases and controls (the goodness of fit being AUC=0.86). The EAT-26 demonstrated good specificity (94.9%), and acceptable sensitivity (59.7%) to detect eating disorders.
