Diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disease, with several degrees of severity corresponding to various oral and systemic complications. On this regard, in recent years an increasing involvement of the dentists has been reported, in particular for the connection to periodontal disease. From the literature review we can infer that this correlation is mutual and the treatment of the periodontal disease is beneficial also on the management of diabetic subjects.
