The essay aim is to analyze the Center Thomas Mann activities, between 1957, year of the foundation, and 1973, when Italy recognized the GDR. The Center has been created and supported by Pci and GDR, and it gathered many links intellectuals. It tried to popularize the GDR culture, focusing on authors like Brecht and Kollwitz and on antifascism issue, also using it against the FRG. The essay, analyzing CTM activities, examines the GDR cultural politics in Italy, in its connection between the FRG one.
Il saggio analizza l’attività del Centro Thomas Mann fra il 1957, anno della sua fondazione, e il 1973, quando l’Italia riconobbe la RDT. Il Centro, creato per iniziativa del Pci e sostenuto dalla RDT, raccolse numerosi intellettuali. Cercò di far conoscere l’RDT, concentrandosi soprattutto su alcuni autori (Brecht, K. Kollwitz) e sul tema dell’antifascismo, anche in una chiave di propaganda anti Repubblica federale. Attraverso le vicende del CTM si approfondisce la politica culturale della RDT in Italia, nel suo intreccio con quella della RFT e nelle sue relazioni con la SED e il Pci.
