Esiodo e il racconto di Omero: problemi di poetica greca

The aim of this contribution is to outline, albeit briefly, the main directions of the debate concerning the words of the Muses that, for the investiture scene, Hesiod inserts in the Theogony. With allusive art, he interweaves well defined models of Homer: the Sirens’ speech, the speech of Eumaeus in the Odyssey and, centrally, the commentary on the speech of Aethon of Crete. The opposition between the true things, αληθέα, and the many false things, ψεύδεα πολλά, that seem real, έτύμοισιν όμοία, reveals an extreme tension. For the critics, the rejection hits the lie with the denial of identity or indicates the theory of the fiction, εϊκώς λόγος, which Aristotle derives from Gorgias and Plato. However, Thucydides, in conjunction with the VII Nemean Ode of Pindar, allows us to imagine another field: the tale that finds its code in the αϋξησις, in the amplification, and which does not align with the framework of the true things.
