We analyse the impact of the presence of immigrants students on the overall students performance and on non-native students in particular. Our analysis is based on a sample containing all the upper secondary schools in Tuscany, in Italy. We perform a regression analysis where the average graduation mark at the school level depends on the share of migrants in that school and on several other characteristics. Given that the presence of immigrants students may be endogenous, we adopt an instrumental variable approach. Our results show that the presence of immigrants does not have a detrimental effect on the performance of their native peers.

Abstract
We analyse the impact of the presence of immigrants students on the overall students performance and on non-native students in particular. Our analysis is based on a sample containing all the upper secondary schools in Tuscany, in Italy. We perform a regression analysis where the average graduation mark at the school level depends on the share of migrants in that school and on several other characteristics. Given that the presence of immigrants students may be endogenous, we adopt an instrumental variable approach. Our results show that the presence of immigrants does not have a detrimental effect on the performance of their native peers.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
