his essay examines cultural memory as a crucial foundation of democratic coexistence and civic values. Drawing on the distinction between communicative and cultural memory, it identifies three main dimensions of memorial production: narrative, material and ritual. The article then analyses the historical role of the nation-state in shaping shared memories through schools, monuments, archives, museums, ceremonies and civic calendars. Finally, it considers the contemporary weakening of the national framework, linked to globalization, new media, the acceleration of history and the democratization of memory. The result is a fragmented memorial landscape in which local, minority and transnational memories challenge older forms of civic cohesion.

Abstract
his essay examines cultural memory as a crucial foundation of democratic coexistence and civic values. The result is a fragmented memorial landscape in which local, minority and transnational memories challenge older forms of civic cohesion.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
