In Italy, historical festivals, whether of secular or religious origin, have a centuries-old tradition closely tied to local communities (villages, towns and cities). Over time, this tradition has also been joined by the activities of reenactment groups that emerged under the influence of examples from beyond the Alps. Experiments have also been carried out to promote cultural heritage through reenactment events, whether or not linked to the organisation of historical festivals. This hybridisation, combined with other concurrent factors, has recently brought renewed and significant attention to re-enactment events in the broadest sense from universities and public administrations. Seizing upon this evident current trend, the AIPH has organised a series of coordinated initiatives and projects since 2021 to promote Public History (PH) as a point of contact between key players in the world of reenactment, researchers, and institutional representatives. Essentially, the AIPH has come to believe that public historians can play a decisive role in the evolution of this ongoing phenomenon.
In Italia, il mondo delle feste storiche, a origine laica o religiosa, ha una tradizione ormai secolare e ben sedimentata, strettamente legata alle realtà locali (borghi, paesi, città). Su di essa si è innestata, in tempi diversi, anche l’attività di gruppi di rievocatori nati sotto l’influenza e il modello degli esempi d’Oltralpe; si sono inoltre attuate sperimentazioni di valorizzazione dei beni culturali tramite eventi rievocativi legati o meno all’organizzazione di feste storiche. Questa ibridazione, unita ad altri fattori concomitanti, ha portato di recente una nuova forte attenzione sugli eventi rievocativi in senso lato da parte di università e amministrazioni pubbliche. Intercettando un evidente congiuntura in atto, dal 2021 l’Associazione Italiana di Public History ha organizzato una serie di iniziative e di progettualità coordinate per proporre la Public History (da qui in poi PH) come punto di contatto tra i protagonisti del mondo della rievocazione, i ricercatori e i rappresentanti delle istituzioni. In sostanza nell’AIPH è maturata la convinzione che i public historian possono avere un ruolo determinante nell’evoluzione del fenomeno in atto.
