Students’ emotions, beliefs, motivations, values, and attitudes, summarized under the term affect, are crucial for learning mathematics, educational choices, and future life trajectories. Over the past decade, research on affective constructs and their relations to other educational outcomes has increased in mathematics education. This research forum will present current developments and future directions in research on affect in mathematics education. Contributions addressing overarching perspectives will synthesize research from measurement, situational, and sociocultural perspectives. Contributions focusing on specific contexts will address affect in problem solving and problem posing, mathematical modelling and applications, and gender. The forum will include audience discussion and invited commentary to advance research on affect.
