Traditionally known in Matelica (Mc) as Libro della fraternità di Santa Croce, the manuscript is written in successive stages in the space of time from 1468 to 1518 and contains a notarial deed, an inventory and above all income and expenditure accounts of the local disciplinati confraternity. The essay is divided into two instalments: the first one provides a concise description of the manuscript and the unabridged edition of the text; the second instalment provides the linguistic analysis according to the traditional grid. Despite its late date and although it is a single archival item, the document is highly representative of the late-medieval vernacular of Matelica because of the variety of hands involved in its compilation. Therefore, the linguistic analysis provides the characterization of each hand which has a significant diffusion in order to compare them from a variationist perspective.
