This study details an integrated Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) combining private 5G and satellite backhaul for environmental monitoring in agriculture. Designed for areas with variable production and limited connectivity, it supports data collection, edge processing, and cloud analytics. Custom ESP32-LoRa sensor nodes measure soil moisture, plant water stress, microclimate, and gases like CO₂, CH₄, and NH₃ in crops and livestock. Private 5G enables real-time anomaly alerts and management actions, while satellite backhaul ensures data flow in remote regions. The system can integrate ground and Earth Observation data, offering a scalable, resilient framework for water, air quality, and environmental monitoring in climate-smart farming.

Abstract
This study details an integrated Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) combining private 5G and satellite backhaul for environmental monitoring in agriculture. Designed for areas with variable production and limited connectivity, it supports data collection, edge processing, and cloud analytics. Custom ESP32-LoRa sensor nodes measure soil moisture, plant water stress, microclimate, and gases like CO₂, CH₄, and NH₃ in crops and livestock. Private 5G enables real-time anomaly alerts and management actions, while satellite backhaul ensures data flow in remote regions. The system can integrate ground and Earth Observation data, offering a scalable, resilient framework for water, air quality, and environmental monitoring in climate-smart farming.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
