The paper examines the documentation of the Verona Chapter Archives to verify the plausibility of the discussion of the Questio de aqua et terra that occurred on January 20 1320 in the church of the chapter of the canons in Verona. The analysis focuses not only on the sources attesting to the Verona liturgical practice of the second Sunday after Epiphany, but also on the uncertainty about the official title of the chapter church, dedicated first to St. George and only later to St. Helen.

Abstract

The paper examines the documentation of the Verona Chapter Archives to verify the plausibility of the discussion of the Questio de aqua et terra that occurred on January 20 1320 in the church of the chapter of the canons in Verona. The analysis focuses not only on the sources attesting to the Verona liturgical practice of the second Sunday after Epiphany, but also on the uncertainty about the official title of the chapter church, dedicated first to St. George and only later to St. Helen.
