The contributions to the volume was originally given as paper at the Conference “Letter(s): Functions and Forms of Letter-Writing in Victorian Art and Literature” which was held at “G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti–Pescara 0. A recurrent question raised at the Conference was that of the complex history of Victorian letter–writing, which emerged in the variety of the papers’ themes and approaches, as well as of related issues posed by the subject. In a lager version of the Conferente, the main scope of the paper is to reflect on the relationship between Ovid’s Heroides and the image of the abandoned woman, so frequent in Victorian love poetry.
