L’Andrienne and L’école des pères, two comedies by Michel Baron, a pupil of Molière’s, inspired by Terence’s Andria and Adelphoe, are analysed with regard to the changes required by the distance between different civilizations, social customs and literary and theatrical conventions. In Andrienne one of these changes, due to the impossibility of putting a pre-marriage pregnancy on stage, leads to a shrewd and masterly rielaboration of the plot.
