Authorities demonstrate the need to use appropriate tools to verify how it is possible to combine the location of infrastructure with the protection of the territorial and environmental context. In other words, the authorities must dispose the right tools to implement procedures to assess the effects of the infrastructures. A key role is played by tools able to develop and process very large and heterogeneous databases by means of the spatialization of the information, to quantify the impacts and therefore to enable the evaluation of the sensitivity of the territories. With the aim to implement these instruments, two applications on the territory of the Province of Lucca were made: one relating to the construction of mini-hydroelectric centrals in the Serchio Valley and the other concerning the realization of road infrastructure in some municipalities of the Lucca's area.
