Machiavel et son mystère. Un dialogue avec Metin Arditi

According to M. Arditi, even those writers who show a better understanding of Machiavelli's thought are disturbed by it. This can be ascribed to the lingering conviction that "some of the basic rules of Christian thought are overridden" in Machiavelli. Arditi, in contrast, contends that Christian ethics and Machiavelli are compatible and even complementry, rather than at odds with each other. His arguments, though stimulating, turn out to be unpersuasive. The opposition persists, as does the problem of finding limits to the dangers of barbaric regressions which are inherent to politcl action. Politics remains a major challenge to ethics, Christian or secular.
