In this study a preliminary feasibility-analysis has been performed for the implementation of a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system in the city of Rimini which is currently suffering from road traffic predominantly generated by tourists and conference visitors. The newly built conference centre, south-west of the city, is expected to increase car traffic by attendees arriving from hotels along the coast at the east side of the city. The paper investigates a PRT service, linking the motorway-exit, conference-centre and hotels along the beach. The aim is to reduce car traffic and parking-space in the most precious zone along the beach and provide visitors with a the high-quality PRT service. Micro-simulations have been applied to address capacity issues in presence of fluctuating demand and economic sustainability aspects are also discussed. The results show that a PRT network in Rimini is feasible: from both a technical and an economical point of view.

Abstract
The results show that a PRT network in Rimini is feasible: from both a technical and an economical point of view.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
