This paper describes the implementation of an educational laboratory yielding both remote control of instruments and data acquisition capabilities through a TCP-IP based network. The system consists of a GPIB interface for connecting the instruments to a PC-server, a server-to-client link based on the TCP-IP protocol, and a virtual instrument, available on each PC-client, developed using the LabVIEW™ software by National Instruments. The system is being used in the Laboratory of Telecommunication and Applied Electromagnetics of the Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Pisa. At the present it can operate with a vector network analyzer, a spectrum analyzer, a digital oscilloscope and a digital communications analyzer.

Abstract
This paper describes the implementation of an educational laboratory yielding both remote control of instruments and data acquisition capabilities through a TCP-IP based network. The system consists of a GPIB interface for connecting the instruments to a PC-server, a server-to-client link based on the TCP-IP protocol, and a virtual instrument, available on each PC-client, developed using the LabVIEW™ software by National Instruments. The system is being used in the Laboratory of Telecommunication and Applied Electromagnetics of the Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Pisa. At the present it can operate with a vector network analyzer, a spectrum analyzer, a digital oscilloscope and a digital communications analyzer.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
