An experimental investigation to characterize the fluctuating velocity field in the wake of two finite cylinders with equilateral triangular and circular cross-sections is described. In particular, the fluctuations induced by the lateral alternate vortex shedding are identified and those present in the upper part of the wake are analysed, together with their possible connection with the axial vortices originating at the free-ends of the bodies. The velocity signals, obtained through hot-wire anemometry, are analysed using procedures based on the wavelet and Hilbert transforms, which provide the time variation of the dominating frequencies and the instantaneous phase difference between the components of signals acquired in different positions.

Abstract
An experimental investigation to characterize the fluctuating velocity field in the wake of two finite cylinders with equilateral triangular and circular cross-sections is described. In particular, the fluctuations induced by the lateral alternate vortex shedding are identified and those present in the upper part of the wake are analysed, together with their possible connection with the axial vortices originating at the free-ends of the bodies. The velocity signals, obtained through hot-wire anemometry, are analysed using procedures based on the wavelet and Hilbert transforms, which provide the time variation of the dominating frequencies and the instantaneous phase difference between the components of signals acquired in different positions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
