The aim of this study was to establish a possible relationship between the corneal crystalline stromal dystrophy and lipidic metabolism in 9 dogs. All the patients underwent a thorough clinical and ophthalmologic examination. The dogs ranged in age from 3 to 8 years; they were 3 males and 6 females and the main breed prevalence was in the Boxer. The corneal lesions were not associated with pre-existing ocular pathology. The corneal dystrophy was bilateral in 8 cases. Lipidogram was performed on EDTA plasma of all the subjects, showing an increase of (LDL) fraction in 7 cases. On the basis of our results, LDL variations could be a predisposing factor to crystalline stromal dystrophy of the cornea in the dog, but this evidence must be confirmed through the evaluation of more cases.
