The essential oils of Achillea santolina L. and A. biebersteinii Afan., collected in Jordan, have been studied. The former has never been previously investigated, while the latter evidenced from a literature survey a high variability. The two oils were quite different: A. santolina oil showed mainly 1,8-cineole, camphor, 4-terpineol and trans-carveol, while A. biebersteinii oil contained cis-ascaridole, p-cymene, carvenone oxide and camphor among its principal constituents. This is the second report of carvenone oxide from a natural source
