The aim of the present work was to evaluate the results obtained from BAL collected from 82 competition horses. Materials and methods - All the subjects, different in sex, breed and age, were submitted to clinical exam, pleural ultrasound, endoscopy and broncoalveolar lavage. Samples collected were used for cell count and differential count (percentages of macrophages, lymphocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils and mast cells). Results - IAD was diagnosed in 55/82 (67,1%), RAO in 12/82 (14,6%), EIPH in 4/82 (4,9%), 11/82 (13,4%) horses were considered healthy. Eosinophilic IAD has been diagnosed in subjects aged 2,87 +/- 1,46; mixed IAD 3,97 +/- 1,75 aged; EIPH 4 +/- 1,41 aged and RAO 11,5 +/- 4,20 aged.
